We bought a brandnew GATEWAY / w/98 a year and a half ago.....Someone in our house decided to use the CD Writer to copy/burn many songs onto some kind of mini cd. When he was finished....the font was very large and the graphics on the desktop very fuzzy .... we still have internet connections. We called Gateway they sent us some drivers and we installed them....and we installed the Gateway CD/support....Any suggestions....

Have you gone to Control Panel>Display (or right click the desktop and choose properties)and looked at the Appearance tab?
What happens when you change the scheme to Windows Classic? Also look at the settings tab to see the colors setting and the screen area. The Advance button also allows you to change the size of the font.

verify that you have the correct drivers specified for both the video card and the monitor, and then make sure that the resolution and color depth are supported by both. You can check both by right-clicking on the desktop and selecting properties. You want the Settings tab.

It sounds like someone rebooted the pc in safe mode which reset your desktop to 640X480 and changed the colours to 16 bit. If you right click on your desktop and go to advanced change you resolution to 800X600 or whatever you had and then change your colour to 256 colours or higher and this should solve your problem.

All of the above answers are correct. By going to the Display properties page and checking the color settings, if you only have the option for 16 colors, then your video adapter drivers have stopped working or been lost or been corrupted. You will need to reinstall the video drivers that Gateway sent you. Reboot. When you restart, if the drivers were installed correctly, then you should be able to change the color setting, schemes, and Screen Resolution\size. Please let us know how it worked out for you by posting a comment before you close this thread. Best wishes.
