A Win98SE machine in otherwise good health randomly creates upwards of 5000-8000 files in the windows\temp folder. Most are HTML but there are a few DLLs too. The HTML files appear to be online help about MS Visual Basic. Deleteing them at startup takes over two hours. They come back regularly. There's no VB installed on the PC, just Office 97, Outlook 2000, IE5, NAV5 and Pastel Accounting and Payroll. Pastel claim they dont use VB or HTML.

Try first by deleting your windows\temp folder (directory). Then the files will have nowhere to go, and they won't get in the way. Check regularly to see if it has been re-created. The time windows\temp is created will corelate to the program you were using when it happened. If it happens at startup then remove programs from windows\startup one at a time untill the offending app is found. Good Luck.
Looks like the weirdo accounting system is the culprit. It is the only program open when this occurs. The author denies all responsibility. Time to tell the client to change to something supportable! Thanks for your input.
