The hardware does not matter what operating system you have laoded on the system

This would be the BIOS,that would suupport the size of the drive, check the bios version, when the startup screen appears to determine if you have the latest up date that will give maximum hard drive support.

The only problem with HD size in an older OS ie: Win95/98 is that it is sometime repoted as 2GIG no matter how big it may be. This doesn't mean it will only HOLD 2 gigs but will only SHOW 2gig. Win98Se had patched this as do MOST BIOS updates.
I use a 120 GIG in ONE WIN98 PC (slow 7200 RPM though) an 80 GIG 10,000 RPM drive in another and a 30 gig in another, no problems other than the cheap drives have poor data speeds.

From my experience, I wouldn't bother going over 80 GIG with a cheapdrive and would just use two 80 GIG drives if storage was needed as opposed to a latger drive. UNLESS you spend $$$ to get something decent.
