Lat 510 Laptop Kbrd disabled in Win 2000

Unable to use keyboard to log on to Win 2000 on Dell Laitude 510 laptop. Will work in DOS. Seems the Win 2000 is disabling the keyboard. This was a student’s laptop and do not know the circumstances of the problem.
