latency problem on Sony Vaio

A Sony Vaio laptop on a peer-to-peer network has developed a bad latency or ip resolution problem. Network access to other shares in workgroup are extremely slow and sometimes don’t connect. When trying to copy files across the net, will often report “path too deep”. Internet response is corresponding slow compared to other workstations. Connection itself was checked with another machine and works fine. Any ideas?
