My brother sent me his Latitude C840 in the mail to me so I could install memory upgrade on it. Unfortunately, he sent it via cheap USPS packaging and it might have been dropped in transit. It was working before it got to me, was just slow and such. When it arrived, I turned it on, lights came on, made some noise, then went dead. Now, with battery inserted, only thing it will do while plugged in is battery light flashes green, then orange, then green and goes off. Nothing happens. Pulled out battery and checked status light on it, no response like it’s completely dead. Even when I use only the AC adapter, nothing happens. Actually, once the battery is removed and only AC is used, I get absolutely no response when I try to power it up, no lights, nothing. Went to Dell site and tried to find similar situation in troubleshooting wizard. Took out peripherals, disconnect daughter board, took out and re-inserted memory, still no change. Dell site says motherboard or powerboard. I need something more definite, so not chasing tail trying to find right thing to fix issue. Any suggestions out there? Can rough transit in shipping cause motherboard failure? I need help.
