Latitude D630 not reading battery?

By Ftdsn244 ·
I have a D630 when I am in the BIOS menu I go to battery and it says not installed? I tried a different battery and it reads it no problem. Is there any other reason this could be happening other than dead battery? I hit the battery check button on the bottom of the battery itself and all 5 lights light up, does this mean anything or can it still be bad even with all 5 status lights on when I hit the button? Thanks

The battery has circuitry beyond just a battery

typically the battery has a simple controller IC chip that monitors charging, temperature, and so forth. The controller chip prevents overcharging, overheating, and most importantly the battery pack from exploding whilst in one's lap.

Assuming one of the contacts on the battery is not bent or damaged, your controller IC has gone to join the choir invisible, and it's time to recycle the battery or call and complain to Dell if it's under warranty.
