LCD Goes Blank

By rhingraham ·
My Inspiron 6000 LCD goes blank typically a few minutes after boot up. Plugged into external monitor works fine. I have replaced the Inverter board and the LCD - no difference. Many times it will work fine on power for an hour or so, but the minute I unplug from power - goes blank (and by blank I mean a faint image on the screen). When I jiggle the power cord in and out it will often come back for a few minutes - but anytime the power cord is pulled out - immediately blank. Bettery is fully charged and fairly new.. Bad cable of some sort? Anyone have any ideas? Much appreciated...

First thing to check...

just to be sure it's not a setting issue...

1. Right click on an empty spot on your Desktop and select Properties.
2. In the Display Properties window that opens, click on the Screensaver tab.
3. Click the Power button.
4. Under 'Running on batteries', make sure the monitor is not set to quickly turn off.

Other than that, It could be a backlight issue, but I tend to doubt it. It would likely be best to have it tested at a service facility.

Sounds like a hardware issue, if you still have a warranty, call Dell and make arrangements.
