    Legacy free com port?

    Locked

    by r_g_j_2001 ·

We use NetWare Connect as our modem pool, and need to install the client on a legacy free ipaq desktop PC running windows 98. The only problem is we need com ports to assign in the client. When I try to install the com ports, the pc locks up. I was able to successfully do this on a Windows 2000 legacy free ipaq. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Did you check to see if your com ports are enabled in the BIOS? Hit the key necessary to enter the system’s setup utility (usually delete key but it could be F1 or some combo of keys like CTRL-Alt-Esc or Ctrl-Alt-S). Look in the setup for Integrated Peripherals (or something like that in other setup utilities) then onboard serial ports and make sure they are enabled.

What does Compost have to say? (Sorry I am Biased)…

Manual assignment in BIOS of com port resources might solve this. I am sorry you must deal with IPUKE, I wish you well…

      Com1 Address = 3F8, IRQ = 4
      Com2 Address = 2f8, Irq = 3
      Com3 Address = 3E8, IRQ = 4
      Com4 Address = 2E8, IRQ = 3

These are the legacy native resources for serial/com ports…

I hate that word Legacy, Gosh I feel so old..
