Legacy Oracle System Migration?!?!?!?!?!?!

By rjshkhanna9 ·
Does companies in North America still use legacy oracle applications and database. Is there any opportunity for us to migrating those clients to the latest version of oracle system.

Because at the time like this ("recession") companies are trying to move open source where the cost of developing an new application in open source is same as that of migrating to the latest version in the same platform.

No one switches the DBMS of a large

system because a newer one is out there.
It's on going cost that is the concern, not switch over. With OPen source there is litle commercial advantage to a 'vendor' forcing an upgrade.

There can be no general answer anyway. Whether you can move away from Oracle 'easily' all depends on how much of it's proprietry features e.g. Oracle Forms or Financials you are using.
If you are just using it as a back end with minimal stored procs and such , swapping it out is far less of a burden.
