Hey all!
I’m kicking around the idea of having my own “consulting firm”, but would like a bit of advice from those that know better than I do. I put “consulting firm” in quotation marks because it won’t really be a true business. My motivation is to create something to show people who are casually interested in having a “computer guy” look at their home or small business network. It’s partly to discourage those that aren’t really serious about their systems (but want one of those “computer guys” to help out a bit) and partly to encourage those that are serious about their equipment to use me instead of getting fleeced by the Geek Squad, FireDog, et al. As far as I can see, it won’t be my main means of work; just something to have on a business card to hand to that friend’s friend who wants their home computers de-malwared or have his home office streamlined.
I’ve narrowed down a domain name and started shopping around for business cards, but suddenly realized that there are probably many legal issues that would have to be hammered out first. The only problem: I don’t have the faintest idea what those issues are. Do I need to worry about things like incorporating, insurance, liabilities, contracts, legal papers, fees, etc. etc.? I don’t even know what I don’t know. I’d appreciate any tips!
Thanks,
