Popups.. freaking popups from Lenovo. I know how to get a hold of them. I know what they have to offer and promise I’ll approach them if I am interested in making a purchase. Spamming me and my users with marketing popups is not acceptable.
Perhaps you’ve seen the same thing. A pupup in the lower right of the screen announcing Christmas deals or asking “say, would you like to buy an external hard drive?”.
We have some of the Lenovo apps that come with a new machine installed. This is a benifit for updates like BIOS images that the updater app can flash directly. Later today, I’ll be looking through the list of applications for the misserable malware that keeps trying to sell us stuff; I expect the conversation to include “uninstall”.
Notice to all bloatware vendors; providing “value add” software which better uses the hardware you sell is perfectly fine; welcome even. The wireless and connection manager; great. But, keep your marketing spam off my machines; My cost of switching to another hardware vendor is not high enough for you to be pissing me off and causing my users undue questions.
Thus endith my Friday rant.
