Lenovo Rescue and Recovery wont Rescue my files!!

By hanekwj ·
I have a Lenovo 3000 N200 of which the operating system became corrupt.

Thankfully, supposedly, Lenovo has bestowed upon all those who owns one of theire systems, Rescue and Recovery.

The problem that i face however is that i cannot back the files up to my external HDD.

I start the computer up with the USB HDD attached, if you dont, it wont recognize the device. Then i boot into rescue and recovery, either F11 or F12 if you have a rescue and recovery disk in your CD-ROM. Once that has initialized, i select to rescue some files. I have a total of 64GB worth of data and a 250GiB external HDD. Rescue and recovery sees the external device because it displays the label but when itry to back up, it says there is no space available on the drive. I know the drive is empty be cause i used Windows XP Pro to format the drive just yesterday.

Neither the Simplified nor the advanced interface works.

Any Ideas??

The easy way to do this is

To remove the HDD from the Corrupted Computer and fit it to a USB Enclosure and then copy your Data off it and save wherever you have available Space/Media.

I personally never trust any Software Solution to attempt to recover files off a working HDD. It's a completely different story however when the drive is no longer working properly.

Also if you have used the Lenovo Security you are unlikely to be able to decrypt the files unless you use an identical hardware platform as the Security Chips are built onto the M'Board on these machines.

I had the same issue with an USB HDD...

... on my N500: though USB flash drives worked perfectly, my USB HDD would not accept files. In my case, it was because my drive has its own program that must run before you read or write to it. Perhaps that's the issue?

Knoppix

You can download Knoppix, this is a Linux version, start it on your PC, and copy all the files on the external harddrive.

If knoppix doesn't work then nothing will work.
