Limit FTP access to IIS 4

By stergios_nik ·
Hello.

We are using an FTP server (IIS 4).

Is it possible to grant FTP access only to specific groups of users?

A friend of mine told me that this is possible in IIS 5 but what about IIS 4?

Our problem is that we do not want some of our domain users to be able to have FTP access from outside.

Thank you in advance.

You should be able to disable anonymous FTP access to your FTP site by doing the following:
-Right click on your FTP site and select "Properties"
- Click on the "Security Accounts" tab
- Uncheck the "Allow Anonymous" checkbox
- Click OK all the way out

Now you can set the NTFS permisisons to the FTP folder to only allow those users you like. The "Everyone" group and the anonymous FTP account need special consideration in this scenario (remove them altogether if you want to control the access list). Also, although is is probably already the case, the acocunts which get rights to the FTP folder also need "Log On Locally" rights in your Local Security Policy

I hope this helps.

Hi
Here is still further you can do to secure your ftp site. This is in addition to the first answer received for thist posting.
-Right click on your FTP site and select "Properties"
- Click on the "Security Accounts" tab
- Uncheck the "Allow Anonymous" checkbox
- Now you can give access to users from your domain to whom you want to give access in the menu just below in this tab.
And then say OK.
