Limit local ports used by IE

By kkeoseyan ·
I am trying to find a way to limit the scope of local ports which Internet Explorer can open on a workstation to talk to the internet. It appears that IE will open a few (3-4) ports each time it connects to the internet. When first spawned it will start in about the 1100-1200 range and the progressively increment up though the ports. I would like to know how to limit the range of ports it can use locally. Once ports in this range are released I would like to to go back to those ports instead of incrementing up into the 3000's-4000's. The problem is we are blocking some outbound traffic at our PIX in the 3100 range and when IE gets to these ports as local ports our firewall starts dropping IE packets. Was wondering if anyone has a tip on how to get around this problem.
