Limit Profile sizes on Windows 2003 server

I have this issue right now with users on our network. My IT directory is suggesting we limit profile sizes and to modify network policy to set maximum profile size. He said that he needs to do this to conserve space on the disk. Is this advisable? because i believe that if you limit profile sizes, once users exceed that max limit, they will have a hard time logging off the profile. What you guys think?
