Limit the number of connections

By oysterio ·
Hi everyone.

I am quite new to Active Directory and Services.
I need to set a user such that he can only log in one machine at any one time, ie. single log-in, not multiple log-ins. I used to be working with Netware servers and I know that function to limit the number of connections exists in Netware 5. How about Win2K server? Does anything like that exist? Maybe anyone of you can enlighten me on this matter? I can't seem to get the answer from the books.

Yes, in Windows 2000 or in WinNT, you can limit users to sign one to only one computers or any list of computers, or have a maximum number of simultaneous connections. You do this is the User profile (in Win2000, you do it in Active Directory).

Also see the below:

In Win2000, check Active Directory --> Find --> User --> Account --> Log On To: --> list computer names you want this user to use.

Limit the number of connections

Hi Anna, thanks for the answer but what you are suggesting is only limiting the user to only use specific PCs. That is not what I wanted. What I mean is that the users can log in anywhere anytime but only limited to one connection, meaning if he/shewhile still logged in to a particular PC, he/she cannot go anywhere and log in again. He/She will have to log off from the previous machine before logging in to another machine.
