Links getting inserted into web pages

I think something installed onto my machine which inserts advertising links into web pages I visit. I've run Ad-Aware but this did not get rid of it. Anyone know what it is, how to get rid of it and how to prevent it happening again?

On another note, what is the best Firewall software for an XP machine?

I can't really work out what you mean about inserting links into webpages (can you give an example of a page?)

Try the freeware version of sygate (personal edition)availible here

And also Spybot Search and Distroy in addition to Ad-aware:

Firewall and XP

XP has it's own firewall which generally works well see the properties on your internet connection and enable the firewall under advanced.

When you say something is inserting advertising links into web pages I assume that you are getting a lot of screens popping up this usually happens on a lot of the adult sites and hacker sites, and when you surf sites that offer "free programs etc. I suggest you install a pop up stopper program such as pop up stopper, you can down load it here:
