links.tmp popups

by bobg2 . Updated 21 years, 11 months ago

I am getting pop-ups in Internet Explorer that I cannot stop. The only thing I can find on

my PC that is related to these pop-ups is a file called links.tmp in the “local

settings\temp” folder. This file contains the URL’s for the pop-ups that I am getting.

I have deleted this file and it still comes back. I have also changed the information in

the file and it seems to have no effect.

I have run CWSHREDDER, ADAWARE, SPYBOT and other programs. None of them finds anything.

The problem started about the same time that I got the “about:blank” pop-ups. I was able

to get rid of that problem (it was CWSEARCH2).

The last time the links.tmp file was created was at a time when I was away from my PC and

no browser windows were open.

Pop-up windows will suddenly appear whether Internet Explorer is open or not.

Any thoughts?
