To date I have installed 5 of these lynksys routers 54g. They are usually faster than the cable router connections that they are connected to.

Distance wise as you get farther away the slower the connection gets. I have used them at a distance of 1000' if within clear sight of the router. As you add walls and floors the signal degrades but I have had no problem in a 3 story house with the router behind the entertainment center and a laptop would work anywhere in the house or outside at the pool deck.

One thing to consider is the construction methods used where the router is installed. If steel studs are used (commercial office) results will not be as good as in wood construction.

I am very satisfied with the Lynksys 54g product line and I usually choose this brand over others although other brands perform as well.

Their nic's work well also PCI and PCMCIA.

I have the LinkSys wireless 54G router and the 54G wireless PCMCIA card. It does work well and is very fast. It seems to me that the speed is as good as my hardwired connection when I have a good signal (80%) and is still reasonable around 50%).
However, I find that the signal is not as strong as I would like. I cannot get a good signal in the basement when the router is upstairs. However, if I am on the same floor as the router, it seems to work fine. I have a 2400 sq ft home and I canuse the wireless connection anyhwere on the first floor.

The setup is very simple and the connection monitor tells you the signal strength as you move around.

I have also connected to the router using my Dell Latitude that has built in wireless and it works fine.

Let me know if you have specific questions.
