Linksys PSUS4 Print Server Firmware Prob

By SingerGuy ·
I have a Linksys PSUS4 USB print server and am trying to get it to work with a Dell Photo Printer 720. The printer simply does not respond to print jobs, yet the BiAdmin Utility, when queried about the connected printer, correctly reports it as a Dell 720. I have firmware version 6030 but the latest firmware is 6033. I downloaded and clean installed the latest BiAdmin utility and firmware files, and put the firmware .bin file into the same directory as the BiAdmin executable.

When I launch the utility I can talk to the PSUS4 and change its configuration. I can ping the unit, and I can open the unit's web browser interface. What I can't do is upgrade the firmware. I click on the link and nothing happens.

I spent an hour in a support chat session with someone who's grammar shows that English isn't their native language, and they didn't give me one single piece of information I could use. They would ask me questions about things I had already explained and then make me wait 5-10 minutes while they "researched" the issue.

I suspect that the printing problems I am having will be resolved with the firmware update, but I can't get it to update. I have reset the unit to factory defaults repeatedly with no success. I am hoping that someone here has experience with this and can point me in the right direction for a fix.

I had a PSUS4 unit which would work fine for 2 or 3 days ... then it would lockup and even cause some of my PCs to loose connectivity to the gateway (connected and not connected to the switch).
Finally got a new unit from Linksys with the latest firmware...
This unit seams to work for 1 day (going backwards) but it continues to allow network access for a couple of days...
Then we are back to the same issues with the old unit.
I will use a network sniffer to check what is the unit doing to the network when it goes south and takes all my PC network connectivity with it.
The unit is a lot cheaper than a HP print server... but I'm starting to think it may be worth the extra $$$ for the peace of mind...
If you get the unit working fine, please advice as to what to do.

I never did get the firmware upgraded. I finally just dumped the Dell printer because it uses bi-directional features and I found out the PSUS4 can't handle those. I went with an HP DeskJet as they advised that all DeskJet printers work with their hardware. I am having no problems with it now. I'd still be curious to know why I can't upgrade the firmware, but have no confidence in their current support staff.
