after loading 7.1 prof in the system with 810e mbd pIII 700 256 Mb ram..system hangs while starting startx.. while it was ok wiyh 7.0..twice I’ve reloaded after formatting the hdd. can some one thro any light on this.

also realtek 8139 NIC ives intermittent problem in 7.1 in another pc. NIC is ok works perfectly in 7.0. error mess failed to initialize eth0. Even recompiling of kernel fails to solve the problem. Are there bugs in 7.1 kernel???if so then what’s the alternative to remove the bugs..

My experience with 7.1 has been one of frus-
tration as well. In 7.1 don’t do the
install in text, I don’t know why. Log exact
      hardware specs. Especially monitor frequency
ranges. Then, if it works, it may be s-l-o-w
down-load newest kernal and make everything
you can a module. That way even though you
have stuff you don’t need, it’s a module so
it doesn’t matter. It should work. 7.2 is
      a little buggy too.

RH 7.x is a “bundle”. The actual O.S. is
Linux. You can get the kernal from
“Kernal.org”. As far as goofy nic’s well,
I’ve got a few you can have. Intermittent
problems can drive me nuts, to me it was
worth it to find one which has been sup-
        ported “forever” and buy it.

Oh, yeah. Don’t use “old” configuration
between bundles or recompiles or new
kernals. I’ve boogered myself up bad
that way. Remember, IPCHAINS is loaded
by default. IPTABLES can only be made ac-
        tive after “rmmod ipchains”. (Another
        booger)

It also depends on the version of Xfree86 that you’re using. You may want to downgrade that to whatever version 7.0 used. It sounds like this is a video problem.
