The Linux Documentation Project has The Linux System Administrator's Guide at http://www.tldp.org/LDP/sag/html

Red Hat Linux System Administration Primer is available from http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/linux/RHL-9-Manual/admin-primer

You may want to start with the Linux Newbie Administrator Guide at http://linux-newbie.sunsite.dk/

It is good to know what is "under the hood", in other words, the command line interface, vi editor and where the configuration files reside, but most distributions can be administered through a GUI interface, if you decide to install the graphical interface.

If you run a server and do not need the graphical interface later on, you can always install webmin from webmin.com. It runs as a service and allows you to administer your server from a browser.

to add to Tovio's answer:
tldp.org also has nag, the linux network admin guide.

check your distro, it may have both nag and sag available for install, then you can read them through the system help tool :)
