Linux and Hardware

By asjwm2 ·
Seems like every time we get a modem to work on Linux, it only works for that one session. I try to fix it, but it takes forever. Why won't kpppd or wvdial's configuration stay put so I only have to configure it once, not once every boot ?
Also, how can I back up with my HP Colorado tape drive ?

Use Minicom to initialise your modem and set all the commands. Make sure you include &W0, &W1 and Y0 on the end. This will write the config to NVRAM in the modem and make NVRAM profile 0 the default after reset/reboots. Also make sure that kppp and wvdial don't have an &F command as that will recall factory defaults. This should fix your modem problem. Sorry, I have not played with tape drives much, I can't help you there.
