Linux based (LTSP) Thin Client.

By vinod ·
We are a RH 9 Thin Client User (LTSP), In our Network of 100 desktop 80 are Thin Client on linux using just Open Office Internet and Linux based Mail Server, other 20 are MS users, MS users use Autocad and MS. I want to know if there is any tool which will allow the Thin Client users to view the Autocad and MS Project files sent by MS users to the Linux thin client users by mail attachment with clarity.

Thnks and Regards

Hi Vinod
It's very simple :-) you need another win2K server machine & you have to apply wilisystem patch(rdesktop package) on Linux Server from where you service the remote clients. If applied properly anything which you install on the win2K server will be visible for the thin clients also. So,Install AutoCad & MS on the win2K server & each thin client can use AutoCad & MS now.

wel.. if you want to enable the ltsp user view the autocad and ms project files.. you can install wine in the linux server hosting the LTSP client.
then you can run all windows application on linux box.
but you must install the app first and it run in the linux box.
then all your client will be able to run application that available in windows.

or maybe you need 1 more server ,2000 i think i use the terminal service of the win2000, but you need to invest 1 more server and more resource to the linux server.

hope helps you..
