Linux for newbies

By statykserver ·
I would like to start using Linux but I am not a linux guru. I know there are alot of different versions out there. I've heard of slackware, redhat, mandrake, freebsd, gentoo and others. Which would be the best version of linux to use? Please consider features and ease of use. It would be just for a personal desktop system.

I personall use Debian it was painful to get going but once it was done it was smooth sailing.a I have also used Linspire and Suse.

I would use a linux that is most compatible with my computers hardware. Alot of new hardware that is out there on the market may not be compatible with linux. You may wanna try Suse they have a simple installer and are compatible with alot of hardware.
