linux with with win98se

I have a cyrix 800 , 20 gb 128 mb via cheapset board. Hdd with 10 gb at drive d: with win98se at drive c:.
I installed mandrecke linux at pertition d: , Partitioning 3066 mb at Root , 1 gb at Swap , 3 gb at .ext file
system for nothing ( empty) and installed all required package group except the package for a server.
After completing installation at boot manue I gotthe otion to select 1. linux 2. linux-nonfb 3. windows . I tried selecting both 1 and 2 but only the message ” bios data updated” comes and restart the pc.
what could be the problem ?
How could I get ride of the problem ?
