ListenOnPort(),socket() failed

By skloo77 ·
everything was fine until i installed SvcPk 2 for my WinXP Pro and then uninstalled it.

after the uninstallation of Service Pack 2, upon rebooting my system, it prompted the error message - "ListenOnPort(),socket() failed"

i have try with another NIC no result, created another user profile also the same.
reinstall back the Svc Pk 2 also doesn't help.

before i did the Svc Pk2 reinstallation, i try tp restore the system to a previous date, the operation was not able to be completed. try a few other dates also reports the same results.

that's weird. what is running in background? what is in event. what odd client server software might you have installed. how about adware, malware?

I suspect that is a failure in the Winsock DLL failure due to a bad API call. Check here for more information on this issue:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/winsock/winsock/windows_sockets_error_codes_2.asp

It would help to know what else is in the event viewer log.
