Little or NO entry level work in IT

by purdueman . Updated 24 years, 8 months ago

I am a recent graduate with an A.S. degree in Computer Technology from Purdue University and I am having a hard time finding entry level positions in the field. I am interested in programming positions, preferrably in Java. What I have noticed is that everyone is looking for experience (usually 2+ years). I have also read in discussions here relating to IT jobs being OUTSOURCED to other countries such as India (I know this is true, since I worked at Conseco and they did this). So now I am questioning whether or not I should even get into the IT field. When I started school, there were 4+ pages of jobs in the classified section of my local newspaper. Now there is only around 1 page. Are there really that many IT professionals with experience that there is not a need for us newbies to break into the profession?
