lmhosts

by darrenb . Updated 25 years, 11 months ago

I am in the process of converting my ip address segments within my network. I have assigned two ip addresses to the server. I don’t use DHCP or WINS yet.

I have a lmhosts file on the Win 95 systems which are on other subnets addressing my Servername and IP.

Problem: When I change the lmhosts file to the new secondary server address and do a start find computer in network neighbourhood I cannot find the server. But yet I can ping both IP and UNC.

Change the lmhost back to the primaryserver address and due a start find computer it works.

I cannot use both as it causes conflicts with exchange.

The problems are with the remote PC’s on a different IP segment going through routers.

This is not making any sense to me since Ican ping both IP and UNC of both primary and secondary.

I need to map drives to the server and cannot do it due to this and net use does not work using the new IP either.
