These are layer 2 solution to load balancing. We also use tools like Segue SilkPerformer and Mercury LoadRunner to generate load on our web servers.
As a question though, has anyone tried to test their load balancing scheme? SilkPerformer and LoadRunner have agents that can run on multiple machines, however, it could get ridiculous rather quickly on a 800 virtual user test.
