Loading two operating systems

By d.p.kulkarni ·
I have DELL Studio 1525 laptop.I want to load Windows Vista in C drive & XP in D drive.Pl. inform me if it is possible to load & if so inform the prodedure so that the previous op.system shall not be overwritten while loading the second op.system.

(I tried to do so but the previous operating system & data was overwritten & could not be recovered even after selecting the drive seperately at the time of loading new op.system in D drive)

without boot managers.

Load XP, allocate partition (XP is about one fifth the size of Vista).

Load Vista, it needs to see the unallocated partition (do not format a partition to load Vista on).

PC will won't you to select OS to boot to, Vista will be the default.

By default, Vista will load if you don't select XP within 30 seconds.

If you want to edit the boot sequence to change XP to be the default, that is another question!!

Post back if you have any queries.
