I have IE6 (just upgraded from IE5.5 SP2, with which I had the same problem) and aol5, on cable. When I try to get to SOME sites using IE they will only load partially or they time out. The same sites will load ok thru AOL. Of course I delete the browser cache to try a site a second time. WHAT'S UP? All the v---.386 are present in the appropriate places. SFC is OK.
Ran repair IE6 - ok. If you know the ans please SPELL IT OUT...I have only a few years experience.

You hae run into a problem that has no forseeable answer as to why IE and AOL will not co-exist on the same machine.
You may want to take a look at the security settings in IE to make sure that it is 128bit high encryption, this may solve the problem with sites but no guarantee.

It could be that AOL is using a different proxy server to your "normal" ISP, and that the problem with some sites is that they are taking a different route to your PC and timing out.

In Internet Explorer choose Tools/Internet Options. Click the Connections tab, then
click Your dialup account and settings. Tick to use a proxy server, then click Advanced and enter the following (this is a UK server):

HTTP: cache.bt.net
PORT: 3128

Obviously if you are in the States, there will probably be proxy servers you can use. I don't know what AOL uses, but that would be a good start.
As a final matter of opinion, I would never try to install AOL on any PC that I want to use another ISP on, as previous experience has shown that it doesn't like any other ISP!

Hope this helps

Roger

IE 6 has dropped support for Java and Netscape style plug-ins. You MAY need to manually enable Java support.

test ie 5.5 with others. like netscape and ie 5.01 sp 2

ie 6 is built from ie 5.5 that's why you have the same problem.

ie 5.01 sp2 is different than 5.5 and 6
