Local admin and domain user

By Vitocotroni ·

Heres my situation.
We run 3 servers with windows 2003 terminal services.
Pretty much everybody logs in with thin clients and user limited accounts witch is very easy to handle.

I do have a few user using laptops with winXP and have to log on the network to share printers and sometimes network folders. Also, these persons use specific software that I cannot ( and don't want to) install on my servers. What I did with theses persons is to set their laptops to join the domain and so they have to login with their user account from my domain server (same one as when they log in terminal server)and thus have limited account access? On the other hand I have set an admin user account on the laptop with the Laptop as domain. I told them to log in the network with their network login to use the network and login as admin on the laptop to install software and updates because I don't want to get a call ever time an update is available. Is this the way to do it? Is this safe?

Thanks for any reply
