Local area connection doesn't have a valid IP address

I and many others get this error message. I have Windows 7 Professional on the machine and have checked various solutions without success. Can anyone help

Hi,

we need more informatio, IE are your trying this wired or wireless? Are you using DHCP or static IPS, are you using IPv4 or IPv6? What are the ip settings you are using? etc

Does your IP address start with "169.XXX"?

If so go and check your router manual for your IP address so that you can type it into it. It should start with (depending on your network) "192.xxx.xxx"
