local connection disconnected

By pchlp ·
I have new Intel P4 computer with XP Pro installed. This is the second time I installed the operating system. It is on a peer to peer network with win98se and XP laptops.
It keeps giving me the message that "local connecton has been disconnected".I have Netbuie on it and TCPIP.
Could it be MSN messenger?
Does anyone have any ideas on this one.
I have also tried a differnet NIC and same thing.
Thanks in advance

If you are using Cross-over cable to connect another computer, the another computer should be powered ON to prevent "Network Cable unplugged" error. This is by design.

If you are nt using a crossover cable, using a HUB and facing this problem. Them it may be due to network power management settings in Device Manager. Disable the option.

In Xp Pro, the offline files feature seems to be automatically turned on, and can lead to spurious "you have lost connection to the server" messages. Go to My Computer - Tools -Folder options -Offline files and untick the "use offline files" box. Itworked for me, but may not be the cause of your message. You only need it if you are regularly connecting a laptop and want to keep the file in sync.
