Local Device Name Is Already In Use

by edwardselkov . Updated 16 years, 3 months ago

I am running Vista Ultimate x86.

I had a HP Color Laser Jet CP1518ni installed directly onto my network.
All was running well. I had a power failure and although the pc haa a UPS the printer did not. After the AC returned I could no longer print. I uninstalled the HP driver/software & deleted the printer in the printer folder. Cleaned the registry and rebooted.

When reinstalling the printer the install software sees the printer and begins the installation. If I install it as a network printer I get the error message “LOCAL DEVICE NAME ALREADY IN USE” and the install aborts.

I can install it as usb and everything is fine.

So I reset all the printers defaults and even flashed the Firmware. It still will not install as a network printer.

HP says the issue is in my PC and as such they will not help.

Does anyone have any ideas?
