Clarify: what is this 'SMC wireless modem device'?

Find the make and model of that device.

Most likely, that is a generic WIFI router and you have normal cable-modem internet service.

You normally should not have to initiate a internet connection to make your local networking devices function normally.

Is there some sort of 'connection manager' supplied by Rogers? If so, you may not need it, and it may just be confusing the issue.

Are both PC's in the same workgroup?
