local port redirection

By mchiussi ·
I've got kind of a complex problem here

I've got client server relationship, and I want to be able to run two of the same service on one machine. Getting the server to listen on a different port is no problem, but the client absolutely refuses to connect to any other port than the default. Since I don't have the source available and I like this particular client, I'm forced to think creatively.

My best idea thus far is to build some kind of internal routing scheme. For example, I create a new IP address (that doenst actuallly exist) which points to my localhost. I can do this with the route command in dos, but my question is how can i route a port. This way if i want to connect to my second service with the client, i simply enter the phony IP address and it routes to my IP address and points it toward another port.

Thanks in advance

Mike
