By merlinmg ·
I'm trying to install a new hardrive on Toshiba 315 laptop. I have an internal CD-Rom and I need to make a startup disk. I need to know which folder the driver is in. I looked at Toshiba site and there wasn't and drivers on the site. I need thisby tonight.

I would look in your config.sys. It should use MSCDEX.EXE to load your driver. After you find the driver name, you should be able to do a "Find".

MelodyJ, I looked there and it doesn't have the name of the cd-rom driver. I know I have to have config.sys, autoexec.bat, mscdex.exe and the driver I just can't seem to find it. I think this config.sys is screwy because that's where I thought I could find the information. If you have any other ideas please let me know this is getting desperate.

I have found that the driver Vide-cdd.sys
tends to work for almost any CDROM drive. You can find it on DriverGuidem at http://www.driverguide.com/uploads/21.html

There may not be a specific driver. Windows supports cdroms without a .sys file in config.sys. To make your startup disk, make a normal boot disk without cdrom drivers, and try an ide cdrom driver from any other computer and see if it works. Mostide cdrom drivers are pretty generic and they'll usually work with any cdrom. That will allow you to make your startup disk with cdrom support. Remove the config.sys driver after you install windows if it is still there.

I lije the vide.sys answer too, another place you can find that is at www.windrivers.com,

You will need the mscdex which is in c:\windows\command.
