Lock workstations' hardisk

By abuisa ·
I'm using Win2000 for my server and Win98 for my workstations. Is there anyway (without using the thiradparty software) that I could prevent user from writing or altering the workstations' hardisk; especially partition C, in which the operating system was installed. Thank you.

I think you will find that with Win98 you are going to have very limited options. Any user sitting at the machine will have full, unrestricted access to the hard drive. I may be proven wrong by subsequent posts, but I believe you will have to seek a third-party software solution. Deep Freeze works very well, and its pricing is very reasonable per workstation. Once the software is installed, the hard drive is "frozen". The user can basically do anything they want to the files, but once the machine is rebooted everything is restored back to the frozen state.
