Locked out on boot up

Hi, my name is Jeri
I have a HP Pavilion dv2000. I am running windows xp media ed I know very little about computers or the right computer language so please be pushiest Thank you ahead of time.
1st .I am locked out of my laptop. Trying to get back in I managed to set a new password as soon as it is turned on. I believe I set that in the BOIS. I would like to turn that off if I can and reset that to a black password as if it was if possible.
2ed The original problem was after the computer goes through boot up, a screen pops up asking for a password. I never set a password for this user name. I have always signed in with user name, then push ok. I left the password blank, and I could sign in. Now I push ok and its telling me wrong user name or password try again. I don?t know what to do. I am the administrator. I bought the computer from Costco. At one time I use to type in Costco then put in a password. That password stopped working. I did a new user with no password and that has worked for about 7 months. Both users have administrator rights . This time it will not let me do a new user or I forgot how I did it. Can anyone help?
Thanks Jeri
