Locking down NT

by bbuechler . Updated 25 years, 11 months ago

My organization is health care oriented and have certain areas that are accessable by the general public. Additionally, the personel that use the workstation’s in these areas need them only to interface with our Health Information System, via an emulator. Because of this, these users use a generic login (Rtech, etc). Anyone in healthcare knows about the upcoming HIPAA regulations.

My supervisors have asked me to explore the ability for a generic user to login to the workstation, and ONLY GET the emulator, no icons, no start menu, nothing. Once they’ve completed their emulator work, they would close it, which would consequently log them out.

The above is the scenario they would like to see. Thin client (Citrix, MTS) solutions are notwhat we’re looking for yet so please do not supply them as a solution to this question.

Our network is Netware for our file system, and NT for workstations, email and the HIS system (which these users need to interface). Typical login goes as follows: Access-granted
