Locking others out of inbox.

By srippey ·
I know this is a simple question, but I can't seem to find the answer. We use Outlook 2000, and a few Office XP also. We run Exchange 5.5

All I want to do is to lock others out of inboxes that are not their own. I right-click on my inbox and choose properties in my Outlook XP client. I go to the permissions tab and I have myself as the owner, and the default set to none.
However, when I go to the Administration tab under "This folder is available to", my two choices are grayed out. Those would be "All users with access permission" and "Owners only". Am I missing something? Do I not have something installed? I would appreciate any helpful suggestions. Thank you!

I believe the choices in the Administration tab are supposed to be greyed on user's mailbox folders, like Inbox, and that it's to be used more for public folders. The Exchange Administrator program on Exchange server manages permissions.

How do you have permissions on mailboxes set up on your Exchange server? In Exch Admin, the user should be set as the owner of the mailbox, the Exchnage Administrator account is also added with permissions, and then the Exchange service accounts have permissions too. Outside of those accounts, no others are needed.

With certain exceptions, user permissions on folders like Inbox are handled in the Exchange client in the permissions tab or via delegates.
I suggest you check your permissions on the Exhcnage server rather than the client software.
