Locks up with fatal error on startup.

By donmars ·
I am going to troubleshoot a friends computer tomorrow and need some ideas. Win95 locked up while on AOL with a fatal error and has since been doing that immediately when Windows loads, without any input from the user, sometimes with an error about missing certain .DLL files. She is able to go to safe mode, which tells me there is probably some type of driver issue. I told her to remove all files from the startup folder and reboot. That did not work. I downloaded a win95 patch that claims to befor this problem. The comp is a Compaq over two years old, running win95 in need of updates, processor and memory unknown at this time. I need some further ideas on ways to proceed. Thanks. All helpfull answers will be rewarded, with the best getting the most. Yes I am a big spender, I can afford. it!

Frustrating; not being able to see the error messages. Try one of these articles. Type the Q number into the search box at technet.microsoft.com.
(Two other solutions are, of course) to upgrade to W98SE and remove AOL)
