Log off

Os is Windows Vista, After logging off the log on and place to write in your password shows up. My friend has used this for sometime. The only problem is that if you let the computer set idle too long the screen blanks out. He was able to get back to the log on screen by using Ctrl-Alt-Delete. However, for some reason this shortcut doesn’t work anymore. Now he has to reboot the computer. Is there an alternate short-cut on the keyboard that can prevent rebooting and replace the log on screen.
