Log-on Problem on NT Server 4.0

By daz ·
We have a PDC and started to show problems on slowing down and system hangs. It even prevent us logging on as Administrator sometimes. But once logged-in, no application can be run and even to shut it down, it give s the message "insufficient privelege to shut down the machine" What's going on here?

If you are restricted from shutting down your pdc when logged in as administrator, there is something dire happening. You may have been hacked. Disconnect the server from the network or the internet. If you have auditing enabled, review your security logs. Check running processes and open ports, etc. There are some good articles on this site about how to tell if you've been hacked and what to do about it.
