When I boot up into windows, it opens up windows as normal but I have to click on the icon (with my name in) to log in. I can not go straight into windows. How can I change this.

Go to Start, Run and type ‘control userpasswords2’ (without the quotes). Select the user you want to log in as, uncheck the box labelled ‘users must enter a user name and password to use this computer’. Click OK and type in the password for that account.

You can download and install The powertoys for your Windows version from microsoft. There you have an option which enables you to login automatically. But, I don’t advise you to do that, as it is a security risk!

Power Toys will do this for you. To be more specific the utility in Power Toys is called TweakUI. Here is a link to Microsofts Download page for TweakUI:

If you are running Windows XP, Go to Start, Settings, Control Panel, Select the icon User Accounts, and uncheck the Welcome Screen. That is if you are the only user on this machine.

Go to Control Panel – User Accounts and delete any accounts except Guest and Your logon.
Guest is disabled, so this leaves you just one. If you only have one, you will go right on!-

Disabling the welcome screen is one step, but make sure that your local security account has no password and it should log straight in. Be warned however as this is a huge security flaw… But then again if you just have to click your name to get in; there isnt any security measures is there 😉
