Login Hang

By TechKid ·
I have several users on my network where as soon as they enter their login credentials and hit enter, their login hangs for 2-3 minutes before it starts processing their startup items and logging them in.

Any ideas?

Everytime someone logs in the computer creates a profile. What you can do is create a default profile with the programs that are really needed. So that every time someone logs in it will speed up the process.

Also make sure that you are using over 256MB of RAM. The more advance updates, the more memory needed.

Hope it helps

Assuming you are running a Windows Network, are these users running large roaming profiles? These things are notorious for slowing down logins, especially if you're uploading or downloading cached IE History, My Documents, etc.

No roaming profiles, not all users work in the same department so
they each have different software, happens on multiple subnets and
locations, random users...

The computer literally hangs with the Login page grayed out in the
background so no GPO's are being processed at that time, no
profiles have been loaded yet... Even with Cached credentials it
hangs... I'm wondering if it's the Cisco VPN Client but not everyone
has that on there machine

What are the errors in Event Viewer for the System Log? I suspect a time out of some sorts.
