login problem in xp professional.

By mshimla ·
I have NT server, DHCP, around 40 desktop with OS windows 98 and XP professional. The problem is that on some uncertain day XP pro clients cannot logon to the server it only says wait loading your profile for hours but do not proceed. This happens only with the 3 machines with XP PRO. 98 machines work fine. The solution I have today is to remove (the patch cord) the machine from the network and reconnect.
Can anybody help to solve this problem??

Open a MMC console, goto add/remve snapins, add group policy object, confirm it is for that machine, expand local computerpolicy, expand computer configuration, expand administrative templates, highlight logon, in righthand pain highlight the last option 'Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon, select enableand click on OK, close mmc and restart windows.

I ran into the same problem, The solution I found was to delete the local profile for that user then restart and log back on. It seems to work after that but its only a temp solution.
